Round After Round of Epic Battles

This year’s season has been jammed packed with action. With seven rounds plus a preseason event, the 2011 campaign produced a lot of highlights. We have had a season of ups and downs, not to mention some really bad storms at several rounds. In Depth: DMCC Season Recap

Taking DMCC by force is rookie Jeff Laflamme. Part of the Wide Open Drift team, Jeff ‘s rookie pro season has been incredible, starting with the preseason event which he won. Jeff has been on fire ever since, and has finished on the podium at almost every round with his aggressive style and a team that makes sure his car is always ready for battle. Currently he his in third place in the overall standings and will likely win the Rookie of the Year Title.

With last year’s Champion Matt Waldin only competing in Formula D this season, and Pat Cyr also doing a bunch of FD events as well, a lot of people were sure that it was Marc Landreville’s year to seize the championship. He was at the top of his game last year and with Lacroix Tuning and APS backing him this season it should have been his time, but with a host of mechanical issues and other problems, Marc has only been able to podium once this year. Marc was not the only one to have a season of problems. Marc Andre Fontaine who suffered a huge crash at the end of last season was back this season with another R32 skyline that was so nice it could have been a show car. Even though his car was pretty, it was not reliable. Over the first few rounds he suffered tranmission, axle and engine issues, not to mention a crash during Round Four. Also having a rough season was Dany “Babu” Bernier who could not catch a break this season in his V8 G35. His team changed engine setups from a Ford power plant to an LS with the thought it would be more reliable, but it didn’t work out that way. After finally getting all the bugs worked out, Babu did have one good round but then had a clutch failure at the round that followed. Babu is one of the nicest drivers out there, so I really hope the end of the season goes smoothly for him.
