Last weekend BMW took the wraps off its new M Concept at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France, which proceeded to set the Internet ablaze with reaction, both good and bad.
We’ll say this: if BMW's goal with this next gen – or Neue Klasse (new class), as they call it – is to be provocative and represent a clean break from the M cars we’ve known for decades, they have succeeded.
The reveal of this car, officially called the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse, marks the beginning of a new chapter of BMW M performance. Not surprisingly, the car bears a strong resemblance to the new i3 sedan, which was revealed in March.
According to a statement, which you can read in full here, the M Concept is a preview of the design language of future M models. The car represents, “a new interpretation of dynamics, agility, and precision at BMW M,” along with, “design and technology transferred from motorsport.”
No specifics about powertrains were mentioned, but this design language will apply to both gas-powered electrified models.
