For most PAS staff with high-performance cars, we stick with Red Line Oil to protect our expensive motors. With 30 years of success in and high performance road cars, proven wear protection and additional products to improve cooling and driveline systems, Red Line is an ideal all-in-one solution. We run Red Line synthetics it in our project Skyline GT-R, which has had five seasons of aggressive street driving and has been tearing it up at dozens of track days, yet there have been zero failures and the compression is sound across the board. Modern engines are complex, high-revving and are engineered with exacting tolerances requiring careful maintenance. Many manufacturers require synthetic lubricants that meet their constantly updated specifications or owners risk losing their warranties.
Red Line has been hard at work exceeding these OEM specifications to provide a high-performance dealer alternative. One such viscosity pertains to modern BMW M-cars such as the E46 M3 and E60 M5. These high-compression beasts crank out 333hp and 500hp out of their naturally aspirated 3.2L inline-6 and 5.0L V10 mills, respectively. The challenge of producing that kind of horsepower from relatively small displacement without forced induction means tight tolerances inside a motor spinning at high RPMs.
Both BMW techs and enthusiasts found the synthetic motor oil options in the 10W60 range for M-cars were slim. The dealer was expensive and the weight and demanding specifications were near impossible to find until Red Line stepped in. Featuring the a ZDDP anti-wear package that exceeds 1200ppm, Red Line’s fully-synthetic motor oils are engineered from polyol-ester base stocks which reduce friction at normal operating temperatures at a greater rate than other synthetics. The reduced friction translates into two distinct benefits: improved fuel economy with less drag, which allows for a few more ponies on tap with a free-revving motor. They last much longer, too, and don’t have to include so many thickeners to reach the desired multi-grade.The Red Line 10W60 also provides an improved film on various moving parts. The thicker film combined with less evaporation of Red Line 10W60 seals the rings for improved compression, translating into better performance. Even more important with these über-expensive engines, is protection that the Red Line oil film protects: bearings, cams and cylinder walls with its naturally high viscosity.
The high detergency of the oil also is an added benefit to Red Line products. The 10W60 resists oxidation and boasts increased cleanliness over time. This translates into longer drain intervals, which can really save BMW M3 and M5 owners a lot of money over time. Oil changes in these cars are not cheap and Red Line has accomplished a lot in improving that aspect. Once only available in the Asian market, the Red Line 10W60 is now available at all authorized dealers in North America.
Meeting both API SM/SL and ACEA A3/B4 standards, Red Line 10W60 synthetic is a solid choice for your M-Powered BMW. Now found at parts store everywhere, owners can now benefit from the performance, durability and availability of Red Line Synthetics.
