A platform that needs no introduction in today’s sport compact scene is the Lexus IS line. Building off the success of its original ‘4-door Supra’ approach, the IS is back and in a bunch of different flavours. Everything from the lowly IS250, to the luxurious IS350 and the IS-F M3-fighter the IS line has covered the gamut of what the market is after. And the buying public has expanded to since the base IS is totally affordable. On this platform anything is possible and there is plenty the car is blessed with, starting with its shocking good looks.

Seems anything finished in flat black paint gets attention these days. And the sinister appearance of owner Jonny Feng’s IS350 is proof positive of that. The Vertex Digna kit consists of a front lip, side skirts, rear apron and trunk spoiler to set off the look of this hyper sedan. The emblems were shaved and a custom grill was added. It was then time to drench the project in House of Kolor flat black , which is always weird to see on such a new car. To complete the package a Xenon-vision set of 8000K HIDs and 2500K fogs to light the way around Orange County.

The engine received a handful of upgrades since Feng was comfortable with the power levels the car is equipped with. Feng added an ARC Super Induction Box as well as ARC Intake Suction Pipe to pull in more air. The spent gases hit the manifolds and head hed into a custom single exhaust that splits into duals capped with HKS titanium canisters. With only a SUN Auto Hyper Grounding kit and a few dressup parts, under the hood is fairly straightforward.

Then again, Feng insisted this car be able to nail a corner down without sweating. A set of Zeal Function XS coilovers were added to provide all of the adjustment need to keep this sport sedan in check. The balance of the suspension is all Lexus but the chassis has been fortified with the help of GT Spec. Renowned brace manufacturer GT Spec added: Front 2 Point Lower Tie Brace, Front 4 Point Lower Tie Brace, Rear V Brace, Rear Lower Tie Brace along with a Type D Front Strut Tower Brace. The end result is one stiff sedan ready for the twisties.

Transferring these abilities to the ground is one special set of rollers. Volk Racing Gunmetal 19-inch CE28Ns reside on the corners wrapped in Falken FK452s. With 215/35R19 fronts and 245/35R19 rears, there is ample rubber underneath the IS. Lurking behind the gunmetal rollers are Project Mu brakes to bring the ride to a halt. With 4-piston forged calipers and 2-piece rotors, the system is connected with Project Mu lines to improve pedal feel.

On the inside, Feng’s project is ready for action.  With a pair of Bride Hyperblue Zeta III clamped down by FO-Type Seat Brackets, the seating is definitely on point. Adding to the ride integrity, a pair of Takata 4-point harnesses strap occupants in tight. Steering inputs are made with a Nardi NOB-edition 330mm steering wheel, while gear selections are made gripping and ARC titanium knob. On the audio and multimedia side, Feng wanted something to compliment the already amazing factory system. A Eclipse AVN5500 DVD/MP3/Navi headunit was added in addition to a backup camera for reverse action. The signals are directed to a Crossfire 1000D mono amp and a Crossfire VR404 4-channel. The low end is directed to a custom Plexiglas enclosure in the trunk plugged with Crossfire BMF 12-inch subs.

Another winner from SoCal that defines a slick and clean every day performer. Fegn along with the help of his sponsors: Falken, Vertex, GTSpec, Xenon-vision, Autowerks have put together a winner. We expect to see more from Feng, after all this 22 year old student is just really getting in the scene.
